THE LETTER: Was Fisher Telling the Truth?

Excellent video. Kudos to you and John Peterson.

From an outsider, points supporting the premise that the A's wanted to stay in the Bay Area, at least up to the time that Las Vegas became a viable option:

1) Jonathan Bloom of NBC Bay Area did a short video on the times the team tried to get a stadium in the Bay Area for over a 20 year period.

2) From a business perspective it would have made sense for the team to try to get out of the Bay Area years ago. The team had poor attendance for most of the nearly 60 years in Oakland. While some of the better attendance years occurred under the Haas ownership, who lost millions, during the 15 years, attendance was below American League averages for 8 of those years.

3) Some might claim that had the team been in a different place within the Bay Area the attendance would have been completely different. Possible, but I'm not aware of any data that supports this. But one thing is apparent: the only markets with 2 MLB teams are the top 3, NY, LA, and Chicago. The Bay Area (#10) is much smaller and polls I recall say most are Giants fans. So it really is questionable if they would be successful in another part of the Bay Area.
