Why Schools Over Stadiums will fail

Not to belabor the point, but a few handy facts to keep in mind if anyone says the fringe PAC Schools Over Stadiums has any chance to derail the stadium via an election referendum or via the courts:

Steve Hill, LVCVA CEO and Stadium Authority Chair says that any vote in 2024 will be after contracts are signed under SB1 and would remain in force. He also said their threat to sue the legislature would go nowhere. Subsequently, legal experts have dismissed their legal strategy.

Despite this, if a referendum got on the ballot in 2024, the groups supporting the stadium have the resources to completely drown out any propaganda from the fringe PAC and quote officials who have said that public funding does not take a dime away from schools and that taxpayers are protected.

Who favors the stadium:

1) Major Clark County unions. Even the largest teacher union, CCEA, is not involved with the fringe PAC, says they are an "irrelevant organization", and considers the stadium matter settled.

2) Major hotels, casinos, and other businesses.

3) Leaders of both political parties.

If the PAC tried any legal mischief even getting a Reno judge to help, note judges are elected and any mischief would be quickly quashed.

Remember: Unions alone have tremendous power in Clark County. As do hotels and casinos. When both are allied in supporting a project, as are leaders of both political parties, the project will get done. MLB understands all this so there will be no delays.

This is from someone on a YouTube channel who gives a good explanation:

Schools Over Stadiums is a peculiar phenomenon. In the last legislative session, Nevada education and schools received their largest budget ever, with a noticeable increase in per student funding. Trying to conflate that issue with a stadium plan that includes a tax district that will directly pay off the bonds is strange. It is as if they are hoping many people are too ignorant to understand the truth about the funding mechanism. If their referendum gains traction, Bally's/MGM Resorts/other resort operators, other business associations, the culinary union, the construction unions, LVCVA, etc. will be provoked to step up to counter the disinformation and explain the benefits to the community. Also, the ballpark is something that Governor Lombardo really wants. If Schools Over Stadiums actually cared for increasing funding for education (and wasn't simply a front created to attempt to derail the A's ballpark in Vegas), they would not be doing something that is directly contradicting the wishes of the Governor and the Nevada legislature (which has both houses overwhelmingly dominated by Democrats and still passed SB1 because of its benefits for Clark County and Nevada). Instead of making a constructive plea for increased funding in a future legislative session, School Over Stadiums is actually creating powerful enemies for itself and its cause.
