Claim: The A's had good support in the Bay Area except recently, and all John Fisher's fault

A's Performance and Attendance Under John Fisher from Baseball Reference and Baseball Almanac

One of the excuses given by the Bay Area media and Oakland fans for the poor attendance under John Fisher's ownership is the team's poor performance. But that is not true.

During John Fisher's ownership of the A's starting in 2005, the team made the playoffs 7 times. Other teams that made the playoffs 7 or more times during the same period are the Dodgers, Yankees, Cardinals, Braves, Astros, Red Sox, Phillies, Rays, Guardians, and Twins. That is a total of 11 teams including the A's.

So out of a total of 30 teams, the A's were in the top 11 counting playoff appearances.

During the same period, the average attendance rank was a miserable 27 out of 30 teams. It was always in the bottom half of team attendance ranking.

The Bay Area media helped spin the false story to justify and reinforce poor attendance and antagonism towards John Fisher. Could that have been a factor in the team leaving the Bay Area in addition to the political and business situation?
